Revitalisasi Peran Pemuda dalam Proses Mappattuada di Kabupaten Pinrang

Abstract

The Mappettuada tradition in Pinrang Regency faces sustainability challenges due to an intergenerational communication gap and cultural alienation among the younger generation. Youths tend to be passive audiences, struggling with the comprehension of refined Bugis language (paseng), and experiencing device distractions in sacred spaces. This Community Service (PkM) activity aims to revitalize the role of youths through the implementation of the "Inclusive Mappettuada" model as an adaptive sociocultural value transmission strategy. The method is structured into three main stages: preparation through coordination with traditional elders (To Matoa) and compiling a digital pocket module of paseng terms; execution through interactive ritual simulation workshops (Tudang Sipulung) by assigning functional-cultural roles to youths as customary scribes and meaning documenters; and an evaluation stage utilizing post-activity questionnaires (post-test) and feedback interviews. The results indicate a significant increase in the youths' cognitive and affective understanding of local wisdom and the internalization of Siri’ na Pesse values. The "Inclusive Mappettuada" model proved effective in dissolving intergenerational psychological boundaries, transforming digital technology from a distraction tool into a preservation medium, and encouraging adherence to customary etiquette (Abbinru-binruang). This activity emphasizes that adaptive collaboration between the traditional authority of To Matoa and the digital competence of the younger generation is the core key to safeguarding the existence of intangible cultural heritage in the modern era.
